Look at the condition of parts entering the bath and whether changes in material preparation coincide with the increase in deposits. Contamination control upstream may reduce the burden that downstream treatment must handle.<\/p><p>Oil condition should be investigated separately. Temperature history, contamination and service conditions can affect the oil, but the extent of any degradation cannot be established from a photograph of sludge. Use the fluid supplier's appropriate analysis rather than labelling all black material as oxidation residue.<\/p><p>Collect samples using the approved site procedure. A sample from the circulating oil and information about settled material may answer different questions. Label where each came from, the operating condition and whether the sample was taken during production or after settling.
